Andrew Settle

Managing Director of Sandstone Legal and Joseph James Law

Andrew provides comprehensive oversight of all new business initiatives, legal services, and recruitment efforts within both firms. In 2016, he achieved recognition by being shortlisted for the Practice Manager of the Year at the Law Society Excellence Awards. At the time, he was one of the youngest Managing Partners in England & Wales at Joseph James Law. Andrew’s expertise currently centres around consumer law and claims, with a particular focus on high-volume PPI and related services. He is also a legal adviser to the Royal Society of St George, and Trustee to the charitable trust of the Royal Society of St George.

Lee Anderson

Director of Legal Operations

Lee’s cause for the past 25 years has been to provide first class legal service to clients at an affordable cost – he is still motivated by that same cause today. In his spare time, he’s an avid foodie and football supporter who likes to take long walks with his family.

Mohammed Esa

Legal Director

With more than a decade of experience as a qualified solicitor within civil litigation, Mohammed is knowledgeable in all areas regarding the structure, culture and procedures that make up the legal profession. Outside of work, he takes an interest in astronomy, travel, sports, and martial arts.

Dave Holley

Head of Advocacy and Head of Irresponsible Lending and Hidden Commissions

Two decades after he was called to the Bar, Dave has gone on to accumulate a wealth of experience in contentious civil and commercial law, housing, insolvency and debt, BEC, and now irresponsible lending and hidden commissions. Out of work, he enjoys brewing beer (with varying degrees of success!), caring for his two dogs and tortoises, and skiing.

Andy Lyon

Head of Supply Management

Having worked within the legal and insurance industry for the last 15 years, Andy has gained experience within numerous areas of litigation, including financial misselling, insurance claims, personal injury, and employers’ liability. Outside of work, Andy is a keen golfer, both as a player and spectator, and is passionate about everything Rugby Union, especially Sale Sharks.

Abha Benjamin

Solicitor/Head of Lancaster site

Having worked in law for thirteen years, Abha’s newest challenge is managing the growing litigation team in Lancaster who work on HDR and different sectors within financial misselling and unfair lending. She loves a Nando’s and travelling, especially to Santorini which she visited recently.

Rochelle Dures

Head of Housing Disrepair Department

With over a decade’s worth of experience in the legal sector, Rochelle is well-versed in the areas of civil litigation, HDR, Housing Management, anti-social behaviour, road traffic accidents, and employers’ and public liability. An avid spinner and hiker, she likes to spend time with her children and make a difference by volunteering with children in crisis care.

Patricia Kelly

Team Leader

Patricia is a newly qualified solicitor with six years of invaluable experience working in the legal industry under her belt. Her specialisations are HDR, employers’ and public liability, and road traffic accidents. Outside of work, she loves spending quality time with her children and going to the gym.

Jake Owen

Team Leader

With over seven years’ experience as a litigator, Jake possesses vital knowledge of various different areas of law, such as personal injury, flight delays, mis-sold mortgages, and financial misselling. As part of Sandstone’s academy programme, he is now undertaking the GFL with the aim to qualify as a solicitor. Outside of work, you can find him in the gym training Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai or just lifting weights and watching football.

Jack Griffiths

Team Leader

Throughout his five years’ experience in the legal profession, Jack has gained experience in a wide range of legal matters, including Plevin, BEC, MIB claims, and payday loans. He is currently completing the GFL as part of Sandstone Legal’s academy programme. In his free time, he enjoys watching football (he’s a Manchester City fan) and travelling across the country and Europe.

Jayna Mistry

Solicitor/Team Leader

Jayna is our resident pensions and investment expert, but throughout her eight years working in law (and five PQE), she has also gained wills, personal injury, civil litigation, financial misselling, Plevin, BEC and construction law experience under her belt. She enjoys organising charity events, cooking, and planking – her record is seven minutes!

James Chippendale

Team Leader

James is responsible for Lancaster’s First Response Unit and managing client onboarding activity. Since joining the company in an admin role, James has come up through Sandstone Legal’s academy programme and has now completed the PRINCE2 Agile course and started the GFL. He dedicates his spare time to golfing and the gym.

Anmol Singla

Trainee Solicitor/Team Leader

Anmol has a number of years’ experience as a qualified advocate in India and is on his way to qualifying as a solicitor in the UK through Sandstone Legal’s SQE challenge. He also took on a significant role in the building up to the Plevin Group Litigation Order. When he isn’t working, Anmol enjoys painting and sketching.

Emma Lodge

Solicitor

Emma achieved an LLM in July 2021 and was the first solicitor to qualify through Sandstone Legal in June 2023. She has an aptitude for operations and has accepted a new role as Head of PCP. Outside of work, Emma enjoys watching Formula 1, having attended both the Hungarian and British GP, going out for Tapas and socialising with friends. 

Jawad Liaquat

Solicitor

Jawad has been qualified as a solicitor for three years now and has accumulated a wealth of experience in civil litigation, commercial law, immigration work, financial misselling and HDR. Outside of work, he is an avid foodie (Indian and Italian are his favourites) and gym-goer.

Avanti Menon

Solicitor/Professional Development Lawyer 

Avanti is a newly qualified solicitor with a LLB, LPC and LLM under her belt, bringing a wealth of experience in litigation, immigration, EU law and international human rights to the company. She is our firm’s new Professional Development Lawyer, having been the first to qualify via the Sandstone academy, and now oversees the current academy cohort and conducts compliance training. Her guilty pleasures include reality television and strong coconut flat white from Pret a Manger. 

Sadia Surve

Solicitor

Sadia qualified as a solicitor back in 2014 and has over a decade of experience working in law, namely civil litigation. She is a Grade A solicitor with a significant background in management and a love for dancing, gaming, and trying different cuisines.

Samantha Ndlovu

Trainee Solicitor

Samantha is a Trainee Solicitor who has accumulated four years of invaluable litigation experience. She is on her way to qualifying as a solicitor in the UK through Sandstone Legal’s SQE academy programme. Out of work, she has wide range of creative interests, such as yoga, meditation, fashion, reading and travelling.

Maariyaah Ibrahim

Trainee Solicitor

Maariyaah is an aspiring solicitor who is currently undertaking the SQE challenge. Maariyaah came through as part of Sandstone Legal’s academy programme. She has experience in multiple areas of law, including Plevin, HDR, and criminal law. Outside of work, she enjoys baking and painting. Her artwork has even been displayed in Preston’s Harris Museum!

Hannah Cryer

Trainee Solicitor

Hannah is an LLB graduate with three years of legal experience. She has come up through Sandstone Legal’s academy programme and is currently training to become a solicitor through the SQE channel. Outside of work, Hannah is passionate about running, cooking, and baking.

Hasaan Ahmad

Trainee Solicitor

Hasaan is a trainee solicitor with over five years of experience in litigation. He is a BPTC and LLM graduate who has come up through our academy programme and has recently taken on the SQE challenge. Outside of work Hasaan is an avid food lover who appreciates travelling, spending time with his family, and immersing himself in new experiences.

Ashna Rathore

Trainee Solicitor

Ten years after first starting her legal journey, and five since qualifying as an advocate in India, Ashna’s preparing to qualify as a solicitor in the UK through Sandstone Legal’s SQE challenge. Her experience in corporate law, Plevin and BEC have allowed her to move up through our academy programme. Outside of work, she likes socialising and spending time with her friends and family.

Daniel James

Trainee Solicitor

Since completing his degree in Law with International Business and the LPC, Daniel has moved up through Sandstone’s academy programme and SQE challenge. He is currently on track to qualify as a solicitor in 2024. Beyond his professional life, he is a football enthusiast and proud Huddersfield Town supporter. He also likes to maintain a balanced lifestyle by dedicating time to fitness.   

James Middleton

Trainee Solicitor

James is currently on track to qualify as a solicitor through the SQE route following progression through the firm’s academy programme. He has moved through the firm amassing experience in PPI Plevin, IVA claims, and now HDR. Outside of work, he supports Preston North End FC and has an ever-growing collection of vinyl records.

Phil Sparrow

Trainee Solicitor

Since starting as a Legal Assistant two years ago, Phil has grown with the company to become one of our financial misselling specialists. Part of our first cohort of SQE applicants, Phil also boasts three law degrees and a knack for playing cricket (which he’s done for 25 years!)

Adam Dean

Senior Litigation Executive

With nearly a decade of experience under his belt, Adam is our Housing Disrepair team’s Senior Litigation Executive. While he is currently working on HDR claims, Adam also has a background in road traffic accidents and employers’ and public liability. In his spare time, he is a dedicated Liverpool FC supporter.

Tiana Pennington

Litigation Executive

In her two years working in the legal profession, Tiana has already gained significant demonstrable experience. She has worked in various different areas of law, including pensions, financial misselling, and now HDR. She has a love for reading and raising money for Cancer Research – a cause close to her heart.

Megan Canning

Litigation Executive

In Megan’s five years working in law, she has cultivated a strong résumé consisting of HDR, civil litigation, road traffic accidents, financial misselling, and actions against the police. She is also an avid foodie who enjoys travelling and trying new cuisines.

Ernesta Kuzmickaite

Litigation Executive

From issuing claims to now working within our Wills and Probate department, Ernesta is well-experienced in a variety of legal services that Sandstone has to offer. As well as having a background in Plevin and HDR, Ernesta has also been selected as part of our academy programme to complete the O Shaped Skills course. Outside of work, she enjoys creative writing.

Nykola Shroll-Lee

Advanced Paralegal

With over a decade of experience in the legal industry, Nykola’s newest challenge is as an Advanced Paralegal, writing wills for our Wills and Probate department. Having completed both the NALP Level 7 Post Graduate Diploma in Paralegal Practice and the CILEX Level 6 Diploma in Law and Practice, Nykola is now studying for the SQE and an LLM with Queen Mary University of London. Her hobbies include swimming (she’s a qualified swimming instructor) and learning languages.

Chelsy Brun

Pre-litigation Executive

Chelsy is experienced in the variety of services that Sandstone Legal has to offer. Capitalising on her background in wills, she has successfully completed a move to our Wills and Probate team through our academy programme. She is our firm’s biggest Taylor Swift fan and enjoys baking and, fortunately for us, treating the office to her bakes!

Shahzad Majid

Pre-litigation Executive

With over six years’ experience in the legal sector, Shahzad has adeptly handled road traffic accident claims, holiday sickness claims, personal injury, public liability, employers’ liability, Plevin and now HDR. Outside of work, he enjoys boxing/Brazilian jiu-jitsu, dining out, and playing snooker.

Tatyana Hartness

Personal Assistant

Tatyana has a varied legal background; she boasts experience in developing bespoke financial misselling products and acting as a paralegal working with Plevin and Payday loan claims. Out of work, she likes to dedicate time to all things fitness, photography and her favourite place of travel, Greece. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeological Sciences.

Kyle McLaughlin

Legal Administrator

Kyle is an experienced administrator who has provided excellent office support to various teams and companies over the years. He is responsible for printing documents and sending them out, attaching documents to case files on our system, and emailing them to the case handler. His interests include bowling, football, listening to music, and exploring new places on holiday.
